[28 APR 00] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Money Grabbed From Atherstone Till

A man grabbed money from a till and ran off with a yoghurt in an Atherstone store yesterday.

The teenager went into Somerfield supermarket in Long Street at 6.30pm and went up to a till staffed by an 18-year-old female cashier.

He tried to pay for a yoghurt, and when the till was open pushed the employee out of the way and snatched about £100 in £10 notes.

The offender, who is white, about 5ft 3in, then ran out of the back of the store still holding the yoghurt.

He ran towards the tennis courts in Batsby Road.

He is described as having a bad complexion, short brown hair, a dark shirt and a purple tie.

The shop assistant was shaken by the incident, but was uninjured.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who knows who the offender is, to contact PC Alistair McKeown at Atherstone police station on 01926 415000.
