[14 JUN 00] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Driver Hunted After Road Rage In Rugby

A car driver involved in a crash in Rugby was knocked across the bonnet of another vehicle in a road rage incident.

The driver of the blue Audi had stopped following a clash with a red Ford Fiesta in Ashlawn Road at 8.40am yesterday.

As the Ford Fiesta slowed behind him, he got out to inspect the damage to his car.

But the Fiesta driver then drove forward, tapped him with his car and sent him sprawling across the bonnet of the Fiesta.

The Fiesta then sped off and police have launched a hunt for the car.

The incident happened as the two cars turned from the Cock Robin Island into Ashlawn Road.

As the Audi accelerated the Fiesta made an attempt to overtake as the two cars approached an S-bend.

As they neared the bend, some cars appeared in the opposite direction.

Police said the driver of the Audi realised that the Fiesta would have to drop behind him to get to safety, and accelerated to get out of the way.

But the Fiesta also accelerated to try and complete the over-taking manoeuvre, and only pulled in at the last moment when it was obvious that it was too late to get past.

As the Fiesta pulled in the two cars collided.

The Audi driver signalled with his thumb that the two cars should pull over and exchange details. At this point there was further contact between the cars.

He pulled over to the side of the road and got out to examine the back of his car and was hit by the Fiesta.

Any witnesses are urged to contact PC Currie on 01926 415000.
