[25 SEP 00] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Van Man's Rude Wake Up Call For Residents

Residents were trapped upstairs in their home after a van left the road and rammed into their house.

The vehicle ended up in the downstairs of the house in Newall Close, Clifton, near Rugby – at the top of the hill near the rail bridge.

Police were at the scene for several hours after the crash just after midnight on Saturday morning.

Power companies were called to the scene to make it safe. A police spokeswoman said:

“A Ford Transit can was in collision with a house and ended up severely embedded in the property.

“The homeowners were upstairs and thought to be asleep at the time.

"They were trapped while this was dealt with. It was a serious accident, but thankfully no one was hurt.”

A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence. The 29-year-old has been bailed pending further inquiries.
