Man On Phone Knocked Out By Robber

A man was knocked unconscious as he was robbed while he stood in a Coventry street in the middle of the night.

The victim was attacked outside the Red Rose Restaurant in Bishop Street about 3am on Wednesday morning.

A West Midlands police spokeswoman said:

“He was standing outside the restaurant talking to a friend on his mobile phone when he was attacked. During the attack, he was knocked unconscious.”

His Motorola mobile phone, worth £30, and £30 cash was taken from the man as he lay on the floor. The victim was taken to hospital.

He received a black eye and grazing to his face. He has not been able to offer a description of his attacker. But anyone with information should call Little Park Street station on 024 7653 9010.

West Midlands Police launched Operation Safer Streets to clamp down on street robberies and attacks.

It was first running in Birmingham, and has been extended to the rest of the force area - there is a website with details of people police want to take to about street robberies.

Anyone with information on street robbers should ring CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
