M6 Closed In Bomb Alert

Chaos hit the roads in north Warwickshire this evening after the M6 was shut when a suspicious package was discovered under a bridge.

Both north and southbound sections of the motorway between junction 4, at Coleshill, and junction 6 were closed shortly after 4.30pm.

Army bomb disposal experts were brought in to investigate and carry out a controlled explosion.

Link roads to the motorway, including the M42 link and the B4114 were also shut.

Police urged drivers not to use the area as motorists trying to continue their journey clogged nearby streets.

A spokeswoman said:

"Sunday evening is a very busy time for the motorways in the region.

"We are advising motorists that if they do not have to travel to avoid the area."
