Player Arrested After Pitch 'Assault'

A Coventry footballer has been arrested following an alleged assault on a Leamington soccer pitch, which saw another player’s nose being broken.

The incident took place at one of the football pitches at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre yesterday at 10.30am in a game between Westlea Wanderers and Coundon FC.

The victim, aged 28, suffered the injuries after an alleged head-butting incident.

A 26-year-old player from the Coventry team was arrested in the car park after the game.

He was taken to Leamington police station and release on bail pending further inquiries.

PC Paul Hinton, who is investigating the incident, appealed for any independent witnesses to contact him on 01926 415000.
