[23 NOV 00] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Football Fans Could Hold Key To Violence

Football fans are being urged to come forward as witnesses after a gang of youths marauded through a railway station, attacking staff and passengers and smashing windows.

Nuneaton Borough supporters were among the crowd at Stoke-on-Trent station on Saturday when the yobs tore through the building.

The gang, believed to be local to the Stoke area, descended on the station at around 5.50pm.

They assaulted staff and travellers, smashed four windows and damaged the station buffet.

Oxford United supporters, travelling through from their side’s away game against Macclesfield, were also at the station and were also attacked.

Transport police believe that Nuneaton fans going home from the FA Cup game against Stoke will have seen the incident and could prove vital witnesses.

Anyone who can help should can DC Mike Wilsome or Raj Phillips on 0800 405040.
