[10 JAN 01] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Reward On Offer After City Bank Attack

A £15,000 reward is on offer after two men attacked a security guard at a Coventry bank and stole cash yesterday.

The attack happened at the HSBC in Radford Road, Radford at 11.20am. Two men walked into the bank following a Securicor guard who was carrying a cash box.

They forced the box out the guard’s hand and fled. There were other customers in the bank at the time but no-one saw a weapon, and no-one was injured.

The men got into a waiting silver Audi A4 and drove off. It drove down Villa Road and was later found abandoned in Guardhouse Road.

DS Philip Rickells said:

“We are appealing to anyone who either witnessed the incident or saw the three offenders get out of the Audi.

“We want to know where they went, if they used another vehicle or if they fled on foot.”

All three offenders are black. The first is 5ft 10ins, medium build and wore bark clothing, including a bomber jacket, and possibly had a balaclava with red on it.

The second is in his 20, 5ft 8ins and also wore dark clothing. Police do not yet have a description of the driver of the car.

DS Rickells added:

“A substantial reward of £15,000 is on offer for anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of the people involved in this robbery.”

Witnesses should ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or detectives on 024 7653 9010.
