Asylum Seekers Run From Fat Into Fire

Stowaways who sneaked into the country on a lorry visiting the Peugeot plant ran straight towards a police training college as they tried to evade capture.

Startled workers at Peugeot called police yesterday at 9am after seeing ten people escape from the aback of a wagon.

The group ran off towards Ryton-on-Dunsmore on the A423 as they tried to get away.

They headed towards the police training college, but were rounded up in the village by midday.

The group, all believed to be asylum seekers, were kept in custody at the college until they were transferred to Rugby police station.

Nine of them are men, aged between 16 and 44. The sole woman is aged 24. They are believed to be from Kosovo.

The group has now been passed into the hands of social services and immigration officials.
