Motorcyclist Floored By Van In City Smash

A motorcyclist was badly injured and suffered broken bones after being hit by a van in Coventry during yesterday evening’s rush hour.

The 16-year-old suffered a broken kneecap and a broken thumb following the incident just after 5pm in Allesley Old Road at its junction with Duke Street in Chapelfields.

A VW van pulled out of Duke Street to turn right onto the Allesley Old Road and was in collision with a 50cc motorcycle travelling along Allesley Old Road.

The 16-year-old motorcyclist, from Allesley, was detained overnight at Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital for treatment.

The 31-year-old male van driver, who comes from Coundon, Coventry was uninjured.

Police at the Traffic Unit in Coventry are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact officers at Little Park Street police station on 024 7653 9072.
