Man Killed By Hit And Run Driver

A man was killed early today after being struck by a hit-and-run motorist believed to be driving a stolen car.

The victim was hit in Tachbrook Road, Leamington outside the Windmill pub at 7.20am.

An incident room has been set up by police to investigate the death. It is believed that a blue Mercedes hit the man.

A similar car was discovered abandoned on the Queensway industrial estate behind the EMI building at 7.50am. It had been stolen from a house in Harbury Lane, Heathcote at 5.30am..

DCI George Stepney appealed for witnesses to contact him on 01926 415000. He particularly urged anyone in Harbury Lane who was disturbed by the car theft and who may have seen something to come forward.

UPDATE 13 FEBRUARY: The victim has been named by police as Patrick Swain, aged 52, of Coterills Close, Whitnash.

A 21-year-old man and a youth aged 16 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated taking of a vehicle, and burglary. they are currently in custody at Leamington police station.
