[29 MAR 01] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Pensioner Robbed By Bogus Workers

Bogus workmen stole hundreds of pounds from an 82-year-old woman after calling at her Coventry home.

Two men knocked on the victim's door in Willenhall Lane at 8pm yesterday and shouted "emergency water."

Both men were allowed access to the property and one of the offenders told her he needed to turn off the taps under the sink.

While he was doing this, the second offender searched the living room and stole more than £400 cash.

They then fled the property towards Penarth Grove.

Both offenders are white, about 5ft 5ins tall, and had short brown hair. They are aged 20 to 25 and are medium build. One of them spoke with a lisp.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 024 7653 9040 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
