[01 FEB 99] WARWICKSHIRE CONSTABULARY PRESS RELEASE
New Lead On Sex Attack In Leamington

Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on an 11 year old girl in Leamington Spa are to reveal a number of new leads in the hunt for the offender.

Detailed analysis of own centre CCTV footage has given detectives some valuable new information about the man police wish to trace and more detail about the distinctive jacket he was wearing.

The 11 year old girl visited the toilet while at a class at Oakley Dance School, in Spencer Street, Leamington Spa on December 9 last year. She was approached from behind by a man who put his hand over her mouth and committed a serious sexual assault.

The new leads to be outlined at a media briefing on Wednesday 3 February include:

  • CCTV evidence showing a man wearing a black and yellow jacket in the company of a woman in the town centre at the relevant time.
  • A replica of the distinctive black and yellow fleece jacket.
  • The offer of a £5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the offender.
  • In addition, the mother of the 11 year old victim has agreed to talk to the media and appeal for information which may lead to the arrest of the offender.
