[29 MAR 00] WARWICKSHIRE CONSTABULARY PRESS RELEASE
Police Tackle Crime Hotspots

High profile policing patrols will be operating in South Warwickshire throughout the afternoon and evening today.

Operation Tranquillity will focus on potential crime hot spots and use intelligence led information to target suspects and vehicles used in crime.

The operation is specifically aimed at reducing house burglaries and vehicle crime both in towns and rural areas of South Warwickshire.

In addition to high profile foot and mobile patrols there will be roadside checks where motorists will be given advice on accident prevention and road safety.

Officers will stop speeding drivers and dangerous or un-roadworthy vehicles.

Potential crime hot spots such as pub and hotel car parks will be targeted as part of the operation.

Fifty officers will be dedicated to the operation and Superintendent Mick Hayward has asked for the public’s support by reporting anything suspicious.

If people have information they wish to remain anonymous they can contact the Crimestoppers freephone line on 0800 555 111.

Superintendent Hayward said:

“Operation Tranquillity has been carefully planned using intelligence to specifically target known offenders as well as burglary and vehicle crime hot spots.

Cracking down on burglaries and vehicle crime is one of our key policing objectives and we will plan future operations along similar lines to Tranquillity.”

He added that the well-established network of Neighbourhood Watch schemes in South Warwickshire helped boost the partnership approach to tackling crime and reducing the fear of crime.
