MARCONI COMMUNICATIONS PRESS RELEASE
NTL Invests In Massive Roll-Out With MarconiNTL,
one of only five national telecommunications network operators in the UK, has awarded an
multi-million pound contract for System X telephone network equipment to Marconi
Communications of New Century Park in Coventry.
The network additions - due to be operational by March 1999
- include three new System X exchanges and are being installed in a dramatically shorter
time-scale than usual. They will augment existing System X equipment installed by NTL over
the past five years. They will provide not only a significant boost in capacity, but also
the firm foundation needed for new
NTL initiatives set to generate additional revenue and
reduce operational costs.
The equipment will be fully managed by Marconiís network
management systems from NTL's Network Management Centre in Winchester, with NTL personnel
receiving training from Marconi as required, backed by a comprehensive support service.
Referring to the advanced services that a modern
infrastructure can now support, J. Barclay Knapp, NTL President & CEO, said:
