time you are feeling peckish, you could always head into a shop and
          ask for a Canley.
          That’s
because a Coventry plant is turning out snacks bearing the name of the
          district where they are produced.
          The
first of the new tortillas were made this week at the site, and their
          name has a local twist.
          Mission
Foods has created 200 jobs with its new plant on the Coventry Business
Park. Recruitment started back in spring and the site opened about
          eight weeks ago.
          The
company is now targeting the major retailers and food service
          companies in Britain and Europe.
          Over
the next six months, the company will be establishing working
relationships and has launched its first snack with the name
          Canley’s Tortilla Chips.
          The
65,000 sq ft production facility is the first in Europe for the
American company. It covers a seven acre site that used to form part
of the Triumph works, and later a base for Rover.
          The
company said it came to Coventry as the city offers a highly skilled
and flexible workforce. And it also liked the central location which
          is useful for communication links
          Neil
Gregg, Mission Food’s commercial director for Europe, said:

            “It
is very exciting to see the first tortilla chops coming off the
            production lines.
            “This
is the culmination of 12 months of hard work by everyone involved in
the planning, constriction and organisation of the factory.
            “Our
European campaign is now truly underway and the Canley's brand will
help forge relationships with our key customers both in the UK and
            in countries on the Continent.”
