[28 FEB 00] COVENTRY UNIVERSITY PRESS RELEASE
Home Front veterans take tea at Coventry University

Coventry University will be playing its own small part in the Home Front event taking place at Coventry Cathedral on Friday 3 March.

A giant marquee, one of the largest temporary structures ever placed in the city centre, has been erected on the University's main car park. The marquee will be used by the veterans and their families to take afternoon tea.

The event, to commemorate the self-sacrifice of those workers who served on the Home Front during World War II, will be attended by Her Majesty the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prime Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition, as well as many other politicians and dignitaries from around Britain. But most important of all will be the veterans of the Home Front themselves.

"We are delighted to be able, in some small way, to play our part in this event, and to provide facilities for veterans and their families who played such a vital part in securing victory during the Second World War",

said Dr Michael Goldstein, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University.
