[12 MAR 99] UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK PRESS RELEASE
Universities Win £3Million

A proposal from the universities of Birmingham and Warwick has been awarded £3 million under the government's "University Challenge" initiative.

The money will be used to set up a fund to invest in new high-technology companies that use research developments from the region's universities. This will make an important contribution to economic regeneration in new sectors and new industries. The fund will be managed by an independent board.

This is good news not just for the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick but for our region as a whole. The two universities will work together too use this £3 million to turn high technology projects in our region's 8 universities into entrepreneurial high technology businesses bringing both jobs and revenue to our region.
