[28 MAY 03] COVENTRY SCHOOLS FOOTBALL c 1962

I am trying to make contact with old colleagues from the days of 1962 when I played for Coventry Schools soccer. The coach was Ivan Wilkinson who I know passed away about 3/5 years ago. He went on from Coventry Schools to coach England Schools about 1965/66.

The lads in the team were : Dick Pickard, John Burkitt, Roger Leybourne, Graham Fletcher, Mike Lane, Graham Clamp, Ken Mason (all Caludon Castle), Mick Troth, Andy Ogilie (Cardinal Wiseman), Bob Kendall (Whitley Abbey).

What a great season we had reaching the quarter final of the English Schools Trophy only to lose 2-0 to Cardiff at Highfield Road.

They were great lads and I would love to hear from any one of them.

[25 MAY 03] SKY BLUES : LESTER STAITE

Interesting looking back on old players that I new when I was an apprentice with City back in the early 60's.

Players I cannot find info on are Willie Humphreys and Hubert Barr who also played for Northern Ireland. Both players were huge favourites of the crowd in the early sky blue days!

As for me well I did not play in the first team but colleagues of mine at the time were Bobby Gould /Mick Coop.

What about the young lad they turned down about 1965 because he was too small - yes Kevin Keegan.

Ah well, with a name like Lester Staite that would have been one to remember eh!!!

Regards

[Editor : details of all players who made it to the first team are in Jim Brown's Sky Blues Players Database that can be searched on CWN. Could Hubert Barr be the player listed in the database as Hugh Barr?]

[21 MAY 03] JIM DUCKETT

My cousin Jim Duckett attended Bablake School 1953-60. He went on to Birmingham University, graduated and became associated with Malcolm Bradbury and David Lodge (who has sent me some information). He did some theatre work but died tragically young. Any post-university information would be welcome.
