History Group are celebrating the publication of their new booklet with walk around the
Far Gosford Street area of Coventry.
The walk will take place on Sunday 27
September, starting at 2pm at the site of Gosford Gate, next to Astley's, Far Gosford
Street. Members of the group will point out some of the lost features of the street,
including the network of courts which existed up to the 1930's.
The booklet is based on the reminiscences
of group members. It concentrates on daily life in the courts, and describes the lively
community whose needs were met by the street. The booklet also contains photos taken of
the area before Sky Blue Way was built in the 80's. The foreword was written by William
Wilson, former MP for the area including Far Gosford Street.
The booklet will be on sale in the Herbert
Art Gallery and Museum, the Local Studies Library, and directly from group members.
