Exhibition Offers Improved Quality Of Life

Paralympic gold medallist and three times London marathon winner Tanni Grey will be in Coventry next week to open an exhibition highlighting the very latest developments in improving the quality of life for disabled and older people.

InfoQuip Care and Disability is an exhibition of products, services and information for independent and supported living for disabled and older people and their supporters. The exhibition, at Midlands Sports centre for Disabled People, Cromwell Lane, Tile Hill, Coventry will feature more than 60 stands with an opportunity to try out the latest equipment and aids, as well as provide advice and information about access to support services.

InfoQuip is a joint venture between Coventry City Council, its social services department, and Coventry Disabled Persons’ network, and is a key feature of this year’s Disabled People Do It Week.

Robin Surgeoner, development officer for Coventry Disabled Persons’ Network, said;

"The kind of knowledge and awareness than an exhibition like this can offer is often the first step for disabled people, older people and health and social care professionals towards identifying satisfactory methods of meeting the living needs of disabled and older people. It is also a great opportunity to network and to make sure people are aware of the latest developments which could improve their lives."

Products and services featured at the exhibition include:

  • Mobility products, wheelchairs and scooters
  • Sensory impairment products and advice
  • Rehabilitation equipment
  • Bathroom and bathing equipment and aids
  • Security and nurse call products
  • Specialist hobby and crafts and daily living aids

As well as the stands, the exhibition features a programme of seminars including an introduction to the Disability Discrimination Act, Independent Living and Safe Handling Techniques. Information available will include advice and support on direct payments and other benefit issues and information about leisure opportunities.

Tanni Grey MBE will be joined for the opening ceremony, at 9.30am on Thursday 13 May, by Coventry’s Lord Mayor Maggie Rosher. The exhibition is open from 9.30am – 4pm on 13 May and 14 May.
