[10 JUN 99] COVENTRY CITY COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
More Play Areas Are Proposed

The Sports and Parks Policy Team are receiving a report at their meeting today detailing the expected developments in play areas for the City for the next five years.

The Council plan to provide 7 new play areas to be opened between now and 2005, with the next one set to open later this month in Donegal Close, Canley. In addition, plans are currently under discussion for at least five more play areas to be financed from contributions from local housing developers and grant aid.

Councillor Dave Edwards, Chair of the Sports and Parks Policy Team said:

"These new play area developments demonstrate the Council’s commitment to providing high quality play areas throughout the City, based on thorough consultation with the local community. With the support of the local developers and grant aid we are planning for two new play areas to be developed each year."

Designers are now drawing up plans for a new play area on Whitley Common following detailed consultation with local people. Consultation with local residents, schools and children by the Community Parks team about a play area in Coundon hall Park will begin in early September.
