Crem Chapel To Close Next Week
BY ANTONY HOPKER

Funerals are being delayed in Coventry next week with the closure of a busy crematorium chapel for urgent repairs.

Essential maintenance work is being carried out at Canley crematorium in Charter Avenue, Canley on Wednesday and Thursday.

Members of the public are being warned that the chapels will be closed while electrical and repair work is being carried out. The chapels are also to be thoroughly cleaned while they are closed.

People will still be able to visit the gardens of remembrance and the cemetery grounds to visit memorials.

The work has been timed to coincide with the quietest time of year for the chapel.

In January there is an average of 114 cremations a week, while this figure drops to 57 in may, June and July.

Gary Marshall, Head of Bereavement Services, said:

“We have planned this work carefully and liased with funeral directors so as to cause the minimum of disruption possible to funeral services.

“I apologise to any family who may have a slight wait for their funeral to take place.”
