[10 SEP 98] COVENTRY CITY COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Clifford Bridge Primary School
- OFSTED Report

Clifford Bridge Primary School is described as "soundly managed" with a "welcoming atmosphere", and as being "successful in providing a good ethos which effectively promotes high standards of behaviour and positive relationships", according to a recent OFSTED report carried out in June.

The report also identified a number of areas of the school's strengths which are good or very good including teaching; behaviour and discipline; spiritual development of pupils; the curriculum; provision for pupils with Special Needs; procedures for assessing pupils' attainment; excellent and efficient administration and financial management; pastoral care; effective partnerships with parents; and links with the wider community.

Pupils' behaviour was described as "very good" and the "positive attitudes towards their learning" and the fact that "relationships at all levels are very good" are described as one of the many school strengths.

Standards were also commended throughout, including the standard of teaching in all lessons inspected which was described as "satisfactory or better ... some good teaching was observed in all classes".

The attainment of pupils throughout was applauded.

Cllr Joe Clifford, Coventry City CouncilCllr Joe Clifford, chair of education excellence policy team, said:

"We are committed to providing a good learning environment for children so they can maximise their education. Clifford Bridge School has a good team in place who have all played a tremendous part in achieving such a good OFSTED report. We know that improvements have to be made, and it is pleasing to see that the school is already addressing these issues."

The report concluded that Clifford Bridge has a "friendly and caring atmosphere. The staff know the pupils well and make good provision for the pupils' welfare and guidance. The pupils are polite and move around the school safely ... the good behaviour shown by all the pupils is a testament to the school's success in creating a co-operative ethos in which all pupils are valued ... pupils like coming to school".

Geoff Veasey, Head Teacher said:

"100% of the teaching being satisfactory or better is a heartening endorsement of the hard work being put in by all staff. We have a happy well-managed school. We are pleased with the acknowledgement of our role in the community and the report supports our thinking, that pupils love to come here."
