Civic Funeral Tribute To Former Mayor
BY ANTONY HOPKER

Flags will be flown at half-mast in Rugby on Thursday in memory of a former Freeman and Mayor.

A civic funeral will be held in memory of Horace Stephens, who died last week.

Mr Stephens became a Freeman of the Borough in 1986 and was a Mayor of the former Rugby Borough in 1970-71.

He served as a councillor in the town from 1960 to 1990.

The funeral will be held at St Andrew’s parish church in Rugby at 11.30am on Thursday.

The Mayor and councillors will process in robes to the church behind the hearse via Evreux Way and North Street.

Traffic in the area will be halted by police and the borough flag will be flown at half-mast.

Members of the public are invited to attend the service, where Cyril Orland, who is also a Freeman of the Borough, will pay tribute to Mr Stephens’ record of serving the community
