EMAS Success Again For Stratford

Stratford District Council have successfully re-registered under EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme). The District Council is just one of two Councils with EMAS registration and the only council to be registered for all services and the only council to have registered for a second time.

EMAS is a European Union Scheme which is designed to help organisations manage it's environmental impacts. It includes a commitment to improve environmental performance year on year. During 1997/98 Stratford District Council achieved 72 new actions under EMAS and since joining EMAS, in March 1996, the District Council has achieved 198 new environmental actions.

Some of the recent achievements under EMAS include:

Setting up the Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre Setting up a staff transport group

Promoting Green Commuter Plans across the District Improving air quality monitoring

Promoting Global Action Plan - such as supporting the Greener Living Show on Saturday 17 October in Stratford.

"Stratford District Council has been recognised by this award as being a national leader in environmental management assessment, which is a marvellous achievement. The staff have worked extremely hard to achieve this accreditation", says Councillor Susan Juned, Leader of Stratford District Council.
