[11 FEB 99] WARWICKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE
Warwickshire's County Plan Launched

Warwickshire County Council, after consultation with partners, local organisations and the public, have today launched "Our County" a plan to build a people’s Warwickshire.

Cllr Ian Bottrill, explains the purpose of the plan:

"Our County is a plan that contains nine priorities, each with a set of clear, measurable targets for the next three years. The plan seeks to make real improvements for our citizens offering a brighter future for us all.

"The Plan will take us into the new millennium and beyond to 2001. That seems a long way off at the moment but we are keen that the people of Warwickshire have the opportunity to measure our progress.

"We believe that the people we serve will want to see what progress we have made in achieving these priorities. So, at least once a year we will publicly report to the people of Warwickshire on our progress. We will say what we have achieved and we also say what we have not achieved and why."

The nine priorities are:

  • Improving education and opportunities for young people
  • Improving opportunities for people to get jobs
  • Reducing crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Improving the environment
  • Improving the independence and quality of life of older people
  • Taking action to make people feel less isolated or excluded from society
  • Improving the health of the community
  • Meeting housing needs
  • Providing a fairer Transport System
