[07 SEP 00] COVENTRY CITY NEWS
Coventry On The Road To Deepdale

Coventry City face a testing match against Division One newcomers Preston in the second round of the Worthington Cup, but Colin Hendry is unlikely to be facing the Lancashire side.

The Sky Blues will be hoping to avoid a similar drubbing to that suffered at the hands of Tranmere at the same point last season.

The first leg will be played at Deepdale in the week beginning 18 September, with the return fixture a week later.

Preston have impressed everyone since their promotion from Division two last season, and have made a good start in the league.

One Sky Blues player unlikely to be playing against them is Colin Hendry, who didn’t even make the bench for yesterday’s defeat at home to Newcastle.

With Gary Breen proving excellent for the Republic of Ireland last week, the Scot has moved down the pecking order at Highfield Road following his dreadful display against Middlesbrough.

It is rumoured that the former Blackburn player could be on his way out of the club as he was signed when Paul Williams was expected to leave.

Team captain Moustapha Hadji looks set to regain his place in the side in Saturday’s game against Leeds, while new boy David Thompson is expected to return after suspension.
