Ian Brightwell Brightwell was
recruited on a free transfer from Manchester City this summer after the Maine Road club
released many of their playing staff.
The 31-year-old, whose parents are Olympic athletes Robbie
Brightwell and Ann Packer, joined Manchester City straight from school and played well
over 300 senior league games.
Gordon Strachan, who had played against Brightwell in
Manchester derbies as well as when he was at Leeds, had tailed the defender/midfielder
last season and swooped as soon as he was freed.
Brightwell won England caps at youth, schools and under-21
level.
