COVENTRY CITY FC - THE TEAM 1998/99
Richard Shaw

Shaw must go down as one of the most improved players at Highfield Road last season.

The central defender played 33 Premiership games and, in the later months of the campaign, formed a useful partnership with Gary Breen.

The central defender – 30 in September – had been a one-club man before Ron Atkinson brought him to Highfield Road. He joined local club Crystal Palace from school and had nine seasons at Selhurst Park before moving back into the top flight with City.

He has been a consistent performer at centre-half but has also proved himself to be a superb man-marker and has also operated effectively at full-back.
