[15 SEP 98] ATHERSTONE UNITED NEWS
Atherstone United (0) 1
Worcester City (0) 1
[DR MARTENS PREMIER DIVISION]

Atherstone's biggest home gate of the season to date saw them grab a deserved point to keep alive their unbeaten run as the forthcoming FA Cup tie against their big rivals Nuneaton Borough approaches.

Borough had a scout at the match to run the rule over the opposition and he would have been impressed by United's application as they overcame a goal deficit.

A crowd of 402 saw a spirited match as Atherstone went flat out to achieve their first double victory of the season, but though they were the better side they were kept out by the fine form of Worcester goalkeeper Shane Higgs.

But they fell behind in the 64th minute when Sam Bowen, Worcester's most dangerous player, received the ball on the left and beat goalkeeper Dale Belford with a neat lob.

Atherstone redoubled their efforts after the setback and in the 74th minute Gary Redgate raced past three players and his mishit centre fell to Paul White who drilled home a low shot. Lee Middleton almost snatched victory for the Adders in the last minute but he scooped his effort over the crossbar from close range.

ATHERSTONE UNITED:
