Coventry Bears RLFC 29     Gloucester 17

Coventry Bears Rugby LeagueCoventry Bears fought their way into the rugby league conference play offs against a Gloucestershire side, who saw their own aspirations die following this defeat.

There was a try by Coventry new boy James Cousley, and two tries by man of the match James Cathcart. He twice chipped over the defence and collected his own kicks to score.

Gloucestershire were a match for Coventry right through the game, and it was not until Ben Shepherd scored in the final minutes that Coventry secured the win that puts them in the last eight.

Coventry scorers:

Tries - A Lewis, J Coulsey, B Shepherd, J Cathcart (2);

Conversions – J Cathcart (4);

Drop goal – J Cathcart.

         Coventry’ s top scorer James Cathcart has left the Bears to return to his native Ireland where he will be playing rugby union for Portadown.

         The next conference game will be against current champions Chester Wolves at Coundon Road. Chester must win to maintain their challenge for a place in the final eight.
