Gas Street Nightclub £1m Relaunch

The manager of a Rugby nightspot has promised revellers that the club will be unrecognisable after a £1 million refurbishment project is completed this week.

Gas Street II Nightclub in Church Street has been the subject of a 'Challenge Anneka' style project since closing its doors on the last weekend in February.

The work follows hot on the heels of the recently completed face-lift for Gas Street One, a venue for over 25s, and between them the refurbishment has cost owners Northern Leisure close to £1 million.

Gas Street II will re-opens tonight and club manager Darren Smith believes people will be amazed by the transformation.

He said:

"When you come into the club the first things you will see is the front doors and they are the last things you will recognise.

"The refurbishment includes a new dance-floor, new bar, new sound and lighting and a significant extension to increase the capacity of the venue.

"Gas Street One was given an overhaul last month and that has gone down very well with customers.

"However, the transformation in Gas Street II will be far greater with the entire design and layout of the club's interior changing.

"We have also had extensive work done in our cocktail and food lounge to make sure customers get maximum enjoyment in all areas of the clubs."

Between them the two clubs will now hold close to 800 people and Darren is confident that the new image will help Gas Street tighten its grip on the market.

He said:

"Hopefully this shows our customers that we will do all we can to ensure their enjoyment of nights out and that will be backed up by us bringing exciting acts to the clubs, starting with Kajagoogoo's Limahl on Friday 31 March."

Northern Leisure regional manager Jules Burton said the company had made a substantial investment at Gas Street after listening to the views of Rugby people.

He said:

"We asked people what they wanted from nightclubs and incorporated that feedback into the plans for the refurbishment.

"The plans for the place are stunning and I think people will be absolutely amazed when it re-opens, it will be like a new nightclub for Rugby."
