Jazz At The Belgrade

Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre will be joining the line-up of venues for the city’s international jazz festival in August.

The 800-seater theatre will host at least one major concert during the five-day festival, which runs from 24-28 August. Details will be announced later.

The theatre joins the city’s Hotel Leofric and an outdoor stage in historic Castle Yard as so far confirmed venues for the festival, which is put together by a group of local jazz promoters and enthusiasts, co-ordinated by Coventry and Warwickshire Promotions.

David Beidas, the Belgrade’s general manager, said:

"We’re delighted to be part of the jazz festival again and look forward to hosting some of the top names in the jazz world".

Last years festival, which built on the work of volunteers over previous years, featured Jimmy Smith, godfather of the Hammond organ, Georgie Fame, Martin Taylor, Annie Whitehead and Claire Martin, among many others.

Bob Marriott, who chairs the festival organising committee, said:

"We’re keen to build on the success of the ’99 festival, which drew jazz fans from all over Britain and from as far afield as Norway into the city. We’ll shortly be in a position to begin announcing the line-up and we can promise some very big names."
