OCT 00] LITTEN TREE NEWS City Centre Bosses Praise Pub's Arrival
 A
restaurant and bar that opened in Coventry this week has been hailed
as an 'exciting edition to the city's leisure economy'. The
Litten Tree, which occupies the site of the former Intershop in Bull
Yard, offers a variety of entertainment and themed nights throughout
          the week. Its
arrival has been welcomed by the City Centre Company, which manages
and promotes the heart of Coventry. Chief
          Executive Liz Millett (right) said:

            "Obviously
the Litten Tree will be open all day but there has been criticism
levelled in the past that night-time entertainment in Coventry could
be better - this certainly helps address that. "The
Litten Tree is a national chain that people will recognise from
other big cities in the country and it is a vote of confidence for
Coventry that they want to bring such a big unit here. "We
are pleased to welcome any new businesses that offer local people
and visitors to Coventry city centre a greater diversity of
            options." Litten
Tree manager Shaun Beamish (right) said:

            "We
have recruited around 30 staff and we wanted local people so we went
through Coventry Job Centre and they have been fantastic. "There
is also a café planning to move into the Bull Yard near to us so
hopefully this area of the city in ready to spring into life." The
500-capacity venue offers food all day and then a different programme
of events for each night of the week. Fellow
manager Hayley Smith believes the versatility of the venue will prove
a huge attraction to customers. She
          said:
            "We
refer to The Litten Tree as a chameleon venue because if you were
there throughout the day you would see its character change several
            times. "In
the afternoons it is a smart dining environment where people can buy
very reasonable priced food, after work it is a relaxed 'chill-out'
atmosphere and then at night it becomes one big party. "Each
week night will have a set programme and that will be consistent so
people will know what they are getting each time they visit. "That
will include ladies' nights with complimentary bubbly for the women,
Premiership football nights with drinks promotions and top DJ
            appearances."
