Coventry DJ Lets Power Of Love Loose

A dance record created by a Coventry DJ is set to be one of the biggest selling hits of the summer.

Rob Searle, resident DJ at the Ikon nightclub at the SkyDome complex, has mixed a new version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s The Power Of Love and the track has been given rave reviews on national radio.

The single will be released next month and is expected to go straight into the top three. Rob has now signed a deal to produce more tracks with the giant Warner label.

The new mix of the Power Of Love was created especially for revellers at the SkyDome, and Rob never expected it to be hear outside Ikon.

He said:

“The whole thing is quite unbelievable. I heard the original on a television programme and thought it would be fun to re-mix and sample it, but only to play in Ikon.

“But from the moment I played it the reaction has been incredible. The record label ZTT owns the rights to the song but after a couple of meetings we have reached an agreement and it will be out in June.

“Peter Tong has played the record several times on his Radio One dance show, as have Dave Pearce and Judge Jules. I was listening to Radio One on Saturday night and people rang in to request it, which was quite a thrill.

“The label is taking this very seriously. It has moved the release back a week to give it the best chance of entering the charts as high as possible.

“The record label management analyse the feedback carefully and are saying that it should almost certainly enter into the top 10 and could even go straight into the top three.

“The word has spread very quickly and the record is building quite a momentum. As a result I have now signed a deal to release two singles on Warner with an option for an album, which is fabulous.

“I have been with SkyDome since the day it opened and hopefully the success of the record will bring them even wider recognition.”

Rob performs at Ikon on Friday and Saturday nights.

SkyDome general manager Ian Knight said the record had instantly become popular.

He said:

“Rob first played the track back in November and it is now requested every night he is with us. We are delighted for him – he is the name on everyone’s lips in the industry at the moment and that can only be good for him and SkyDome.

“We have always tried to provide the best entertainment possible for the people of Coventry and the possibility of having a number one record which was created for SkyDome is fantastic.”
