Armed Gang Holds Up Coventry Bank

Terrified customers watched as an armed gang held up a Coventry bank yesterday and escaped with thousands of pounds.

The raid happened in the Lloyds TSB branch in Moseley Avenue, Coundon at 2.50pm as an employee in the bank was handing over bags of cash to a security guard.

A gang burst in to the bank and a hand gun was seen.

They grabbed the money, described as “a substantial amount”, and made off.

It s not yet known how many people were in the gang, but there were at least two black people and two white people in the raid.

They escaped in a silver VW Golf V6. A silver Honda Legend which also left at the same time is also thought to have been involved.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and contact them on 024 7653 9000.

They have issued a particular appeal for the driver of a green Montego to get in touch, who is believed to have tried to slow the escaping vehicles down.

Customers were in the bank at the time of the raid, but no-one was hurt and no shots were fired.
