[09 APR 01] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Man Assaulted At Coventry Petrol Station

A 19 year old Coventry man was assaulted while he was queuing at a petrol station in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The attack took place at 1.20am at The Butts service station in Spon End, Coventry.

The victim was waiting in the queue at the night service hatch, when he became involved in a minor disagreement with a woman also in the queue.

After this a man, who it is thought may have been with the woman attacked the 19 year old with his fists and feet, before the man and woman left the service station.

The victim was treated at Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital. He suffered a cut to the inside of his mouth requiring five stitches and a cut to the top of his ear.

The attacker is described as a white male, aged 19-22. He was about 5ft 8in and of medium build with short dark cropped hair. He was clean shaven and wearing casual clothing. He had a local accent.

The woman who it is believed was with him was white, aged 17-19, 5ft 4in, with shoulder length dark blonde straight hair and dark clothing.

WDC Clare Phillips from Little Park Street CID has asked for anyone who saw the attack to come forward:

"It is believed there were a number of taxis parked on the forecourt at the time of the assault and we are appealing for anyone, particularly the taxi drivers who may have seen the incident to contact us on 024 7653 9010."
