A north Warwickshire special constable has been recognised in the New Year Honours list for his commitment to community policing.

George Haynes, aged 60, receives an MBE for dedicated service to the community.

Mr Haynes, from Dordon, joined the Special Constabulary in 1975 and has served for 24 years in the north Warwickshire town of Atherstone.

He is well respected for his outstanding enthusiasm to community policing and has worked tirelessly in support of specials working alongside regular officers.

In February 1996 Mr Haynes was appointed Acting Area Officer.

In addition to his work as a special constable, Mr Haynes has been an active member of the St John Ambulance for 22 years.

During this time he has carried out charitable work at public events and organised many pleasure outings for local elderly people.

Acting Chief Constable of Warwickshire, Mr Mick Brewer, congratulated Mr Haynes on his award.

Mr Brewer said:

"He has worked tirelessly for many years with great commitment and dedication.

"He is well respected and has always been a great supporter of community policing and his local community in general."
