          DEC 00] ROLLS-ROYCE NEWS Unions Consider Strike Action To Save Jobs

 Rolls-Royce
          workers were today being shown an alternative business plan to save
          jobs at the Ansty plant, and will be asked if they want to take
          industrial action over the issue. 1,300
          jobs are to go at the plant as Rolls-Royce plan to move the jobs to
          North America. Last
          week the company formally issued notice of the intended cuts to
          unions, who have 90 days to carry out consultation with bosses. Union
          leaders have drawn up what they believe is a “viable” alternative
          to the proposal to cut jobs. 56 jobs are at threat in the first wave
          of cuts. Today
          MSF secretary Amanda Richards was carrying out a series of
          presentations to workers to show them the idea. A
          straw poll of views will be taken to see what the mood among workers
          is. If there is support for a ballot for industrial action, it will be
          organised after Christmas. SEE:
