APR 01] COVENTRY FRIENDS OF THE EARTH NEWS GM Trials Face A New FoE
 A
protest rally against the planting of GM crops in Wolston is
                planned for Saturday morning. The
event is being organised by Coventry Friends of the Earth
against Aventis's proposals to plant genetically modified maize
just 3 miles from the national organic centre at Ryton Gardens.
The trials may endanger the organic status of produce grown at
                the centre. The
protest will start at 11am on Main Street in the village.
Environmentalists will be joined by local villagers and staff
from the HDRA organisation based at Ryton Gardens. Speakers
at the rally will be Andy King, the MP for Rugby, Rodney
Pattison, organic farmer and winner of the Lorraine Award and
Alan Gear, the Executive Director of HDRA. They
will be joined by stilt walkers and a giant corn on the cob! The
campaign against the trials will continue with a public meeting
at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 April at Wolston Village Hall. SEE
