MAR 01] COVENTRY CITY COUNCIL NEWS Roadworks
End As Diggers Move Across City
 As
one part of Coventry prepares for lengthy delays caused by
roadworks, another is about to get back to normal after repairs
              finished ahead of schedule. Walsgrave
Road in Stoke, is due to re-open tomorrow, two weeks ahead of
              schedule. The
closure between the Forum Roundabout and Harefield Road has
included reconstructing the road, replacing kerbs and resurfacing
              footpaths. But
residents and traders in the area were furious with the council
for failing to warn them in advance of the closure. Charges
in a nearby car park were scrapped temporarily to try and lure
shoppers back to the area after a diversion put many off driving
              to the road. Cllr
John McNicholas, cabinet member (Environmental Services) said:
                "It
is good news for traders and the city as a whole that Walsgrave
Road is due to re-open this Saturday. “It
was an eight-week contract which was negotiated down to six, and
this was knocked down even further through a combination of
                everyone working together." The
work has been undertaken by the contractor, Brennan and Murphy Ltd
and supervised by Babtie Group on behalf of the council.Next
week work is due to begin in Holyhead Road and the junction with
Barras Lane, and drivers heading into the city from the south are
being warned to expect long delays. SEE:
