32 different grants have been awarded to local Coventry arts groups who have all applied for funding for new and innovative arts projects for 1999/2000.

The Arts and Culture Policy Team meeting on 19 January announces all of those organisations and groups who have been successful in their applications for a grant.

Officers were overwhelmed with the response for applications for small grants from local organisations and community groups all of which were very well produced. As always, demand for funding has far outstripped supply and there will be a number of disappointed applicants.

Some of the areas which have been successful include Asian Arts development, Drama programmes, photography projects, community festivals, circus projects and disability arts to name just a few.

Councillor Gillian Darby, Chair of the Arts and Cultural Policy Team said:

"I’m sure those groups which have been successful in achieving a grant will make their mark in the world of Arts in the year 1999/2000. One of the criteria given to organisations and groups applying for a grant was that of linking into the Millennium, and we are delighted that these groups will be adding a cultural dimension to the Millennium celebrations."
