Ebullient midfielder/defender
who joined the club from Derby three years ago for £1 million.
Williams, who comes from Burton, joined Derby from school and won six under-21 caps
while on the books at the Baseball Ground.
He played for them in the top two divisions and made 160 league appearances before
moving back to the top flight under Ron Atkinson.
He was voted City player-of-the-year in his first full season, but injury and
suspension dogged his run in the first team last year. He was booked 10 times and was
sent-off twice – once for a controversial clash with Arsenal’s Dennis Bergkamp.
