Domestic Water Consumption

domestic-water-consumptionThe amount of domestic water consumed is an important sustainability indicator because water is a limited natural resource. Over use will decrease the quality of water available and affect the variety of wildlife and number of species in our waterways.

Domestic use of water in the Severn Trent Water region is increasing. The amount of water used by each person every day increased from 128 litres to 137 litres between 1994 and 1998. This increase is mainly due to the increasing number of domestic appliances in the home, such as dishwashers and washing machines.
