EVENT Warwick Folk Club : Flossie Malavialle
DATE Monday 27 April 2009, 8pm
Flossie is French but lives in Darlington. She had also been singing for years in France and that’s why she found it quite natural to turn up at the Darlington folk club one night to sing a song. She didn’t realise then that this was going to be the beginning of a new life in England for her. Songwriter Colum Sands says “Flossie has a voice as clear and tuneful as a lark, with a pureness of quality to stop you in your tracks in the forest of a song.” Her repertoire includes songs by Allan Taylor ("Roll on the day") & Kieran Halpin ("Making up the miles"); Edith Piaf's eternal favourites "No regrets" and "La vie en rose" and Jacques Brel's "Amsterdam" and "Ne me quitte pas".
She also loves songs full of energy or, as she calls them herself, full of "vavavoum" such as Bonnie Raitt's "The road's my middle name" and Kris Kristofferson's "Me & Bobby McGee" (sung the Janis Joplin way.)
There's also space for ballads such as Keith Pearson's "More hills to climb" or Harry Connick Junior's "Sonny cried" as well as jazzy tunes like "Let's fall in love" or "My romance" and some French comic songs.
To start the evening there will be a short opening set of folk, blues and R&B from local group Little Mountain.

"Although it's his guitar virtuosity that's frequently lauded, it's as an interpreter of song that Martin Simpson really scores. ...Simpson is taking his place, not just as a hero for guitar-besotted acolytes but as one of the national treasures of English traditional music."
